Sermons are drowned in beer mugs, and lessons are handed out in bullets. “The world is full of trouble and strife—here we relax!” In this Shangri-La of apostates and outlaws, an oasis for the idle, money can buy every pleasure imaginable. Yet somehow the sinful city offers its citizens nothing but emptiness. What went wrong?
The devastating opera about human greed and decay, written by Bertolt Brecht and composed by Kurt Weill, will be performed ten times on the Main Stage in late spring 2026. Following the sold-out productions of Punainen viiva and Ihminen parhaan kykynsä mukaan, the collaboration continues as the Turku City Theatre, Saaristo-ooppera, and the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra unite their strengths once again.
