When the wizard Gandalf (played by Kimmo Rasila) persuades the reluctant Bilbo Baggins (Teemu Aromaa) to join him on a treasure hunt, the little hobbit is drawn into an adventure like no other. Furious battles and constant surprises forge new friendships among Bilbo and his companions, the dwarf clan led by Thorin Oakenshield. The unlikely partners encounter mountain trolls, massive spiders and – of course – Gollum (Miska Kaukonen), the anti-adventurer’s loyal(ish) friend.
The fellowship journeys to the Lonely Mountain to claim the riches that once belonged to the dwarves. There is just the small matter of the fire-spitting dragon Smaug lounging between the dwarves and their treasure…
J.R.R. Tolkiens The Hobbit is a literary classic that Turku City Theatre is happy and proud to bring to life on stage. The jaw-dropping visuals are executed by the same team that brought us Taru sormusten herrasta (the Lord of the Rings) to the Main Stage in 2018. The story has been adapted for the stage by Sami-Keski Vähälä and the play is directed by Mikko Kouki. The stunning skills of the Circus students of Turku UAS Arts Academy help the story to genuinely take flight. Join us on an unforgettable adventure!
The play is Finnish, but some performances have English surtitles (surtitled performances listed in the Notice-section below).
