Ursa Minor Ensemble’s first piece of art work, Growth, explores the body and reality of a deaf performer through places reclaimed by nature and the concept of ecological succession. What happens when there is a deaf person on stage? How does our perception of the stage and the performer’s body change when we let them be deaf?
Growth is a struggle to break away from normative performance tradition and the second-hand perception of people, where deafness is foreign and unknown. Growth is an artistic manifesto that takes over the performance space and questions its ownership.
